Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are Services Confidential?

A: Yes, we take confidentiality to the utmost seriousness. If you have questions about our policy or our procedures, please feel free to contact us.

Q: Am I Really Abused?

A: We get this question a lot.  If you find yourself asking this, our recommendation is to call and talk with an advocate about signs of an abusive relationship and options to deal with it. Please don’t hesitate to call, we are here to listen and provide information!

Q: Do We Give People Money?

A: BPA has very limited resources and does not give people money. However, we do advocate and network with other agencies to get you the resources you need.  We are often successful in getting clients what they need through our advocacy.  If you have needs and are a victim of family violence, please contact us.

Q: Is BPA a government agency?

A: No, we are a private, non-profit organization with over 30 different sources of funding.

Q: Where Does Your Funding Come From?

A: BPA has over 30 sources of funding including, federal, state and private foundation funding.  We also receive United Way funding and are grateful for our local donation support. Contact us if you would like an annual report.

Q: Where Are You Located?

A: Our public office is located in Roseburg, Oregon at 1202 SE Douglas.  Our shelters and transitional housing properties are confidentially located.

Q: Do You Provide Services for Men?

A: Yes.  BPA recognizes that approximately 5-8% of family violence victims are men.   Thus, we provide services for men.  These services include resource referral, peer to peer counseling and a support group.

Q: How Can I Be Involved in Ending Family Violence and Sexual Assault?

A: In two words, get involved. One of the worst things you can do is to ignore it and not recognize the impact that family violence and sexual assault has on you and your community.  Some ideas include:

  • Share your concern with a victim, listen and support.
  • Learn more about the problem and its impact in your local
    community,

  • Talk about the importance of the issue with a neighbor, a friend,
    at your place of worship.
  • Become a volunteer at BPA (call our office and talk with our
    Volunteer Coordinator!)
  • Donate funds or items of need to a local shelter
